On April 26th, the St. Louis county PDMP went live. Several other counties in the state are participating. If you haven’t already signed up, I’d encourage you to do so. To register go to the following site, http://www.stlouisco.com/HealthandWellness/PDMP. To register, you will need your DEA number and a PDF of your Missouri medical license.

Once you are granted access, which only took me a few days, the PDMP is pretty simple to use. Your homepage will have a list of patient’s names that you recently searched. To search a new patient, click on RxSearch at the top of the page and then patient search. While you can enter more information, you only need their name and birthday to perform a search. You can also perform a bulk patient search which may save some time if you are following patients outside of the emergency department.

Residents can also use the system, even if they are practicing under an institutional license. They’ll just need an attending, such as their program director, to register. Then they can be listed as a delegate under that person. Once they obtain their own license and DEA number, they need to contact the system administrators to change them from a delegate to full status.
