ACEP Leaders Advocate for EM Legislative-Regulatory Priorities in DC
On Wednesday, ACEP President Alex Rosenau, DO, FACEP, and President-Elect Mike Gerardi, MD, FAAP, FACEP, met with key law- and policy-makers to discuss several of ACEP’s legislative and regulatory priorities.
Drs. Rosenau and Gerardi began their day meeting with Chip Kahn, CEO, Federation of American Hospitals. In addition to our shared goal of strengthening prompt-pay requirements as part of the current VA reform bill under consideration by Congress, issues discussed included bundled payments, accountable care organizations (ACOs) and funding for the NIH Office of Emergency Care Research (OECR).
During the meeting with Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), Drs. Rosenau and Gerardi thanked him for sponsoring ACEP’s top legislative priority, S. 961, the Health Care Safety Net Enhancement Act, and talked about strategies to advance medical liability reform legislation, including the House proposal (H.R. 4106, the Saving Lives, Saving Costs Act) that would protect physicians who follow clinical guidelines established by their professional societies. In addition, they also urged Sen. Blunt to assist with funding for OECR.
