This bill allows EMS to continue what they are already doing, giving medications under standard protocols. Due to a new interpretation last year, EMS technically couldn’t give controlled substances without calling in to get permission first. This meant they had to call to give benzodiazepines to a seizing child. ACEP pushed for a fix to this last year and got a bill through the House that died in the Senate. After more lobbying this year, the bill has passed the House and the Senate and is headed to the President’s desk for his signature.
