President’s Letter

Print Article

POSTED IN: EM Pulse - The Official Newsletter of MOCEP, September/October 2021,

The past year and a half has been challenging to say the least. I think though it is important to remember the recent comments made by Dr Rosenberg, current ACEP President.  He stated that “emergency care is seen as a trusted and essential service” and nearly 80% of our patients want a physician to treat their condition or injury. These are important statistics to recall when you feel worn down and near collapse.  A lot of demands have been made on emergency physicians, but our patients want us. This fact is important also when it comes to our constant fight against independent practice. The patients demand for and should be given emergency care from board certified emergency physicians. This needs to occur 24/7/365.

Over the summer, our biennial board retreat was held.  We set up our strategic goals for the next two years. As I begin my second term as your President of MOCEP, we will work to not only advocate for Missouri’s EM physicians but provide you with value for your membership.

Over a year ago, when ACEP made the decision to cancel an in-person meeting, they made the right decision. Emergency Departments were overwhelmed, and a vaccine had not been released. As we approach the end of October 2021, vaccination rates are high and case numbers are declining in most areas of the country. I look forward to seeing all my Missouri colleagues in Boston. Don’t forget to attend the Missouri reception at the Westin from 5:30-7:0 p.m. EST, on Tuesday, October 26.

The MOCEP board and committees are hard at work planning our next Emergency Medicine Symposium that will take place in the spring. We also hope to have an in-person advocacy day sometime in March 2022. Stayed tuned to social media for announcements on these events.

Lastly, I would love to hear from our members.  What issues are important to you in Missouri?  I represent the membership and desire your feedback.  Please let me know how MOCEP can help assist you in your daily work in the EDs across Missouri. Feel free to email me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Christopher Sampson, MD, FACEP
President, MOCEP
