Fall 2012: Expanded Board of Directors

At the spring General Membership meeting participants agreed to expand the MoCEP Board of Directors from 12 positions to 14, in an effort to better represent the membership. MoCEP has grown in the past few years and now has close to 500 members (including a significant number of residents). A number of years back we chose to have a resident member from each training program in the state join the board to better articulate their unique needs and perspective.

While the current board members come from many parts of the state and a variety of community /academic practices, we lack voices from rural areas and the southeast /boot heel region. We are looking for members interested in becoming more involved in the organization, willing to share their insights and perspectives. In order to truly represent Emergency Medicine in Missouri, the board is striving to better reflect all its diverse members. Directors are elected to a 3 year terms. The Board of Directors meets approximately 4 times during the year. One meeting is held annually in conjunction with Missouri State Medical Association conference. Most of our meetings occur in Jefferson City (a central location that also allows us to spend time at the Capitol advocating for issues that are important to Emergency Medicine while the legislature is in session). MoCEP Board of Directors meetings are always open and all members are encouraged to attend and participate in their organization.

Many on the board plan to attend this year’s ACEP Council Meeting and Scientific Assembly in Denver. We’ll be happy to meet for coffee and provide additional information to any interested member.
