Summer 2013: New Emergency Medicine House Officers

It’s July and I’m sure we’ve all said to ourselves, our families and friend’ “Don’t get sick this month” there are brand new doctors (interns) in the hospital. While there may be some truth to this adage, in today’s era of highly regulated graduate medical education things are much different from “when we were in training…” The caliber of medical students going into emergency medicine continues to rise, EM has become one of the most sought after specialties among graduating medical students. This month MoCEP welcomes 30 young physicians to our specialty. There are 4 residencies in the Missouri – Saint Louis University, the University of Missouri Kansas City, Washington University in St Louis and Freeman Health System in Joplin. We hope that by this time next year the University of Missouri – Columbia will have recruited its inaugural class.
