MOCEP Presidents’ Messages

POSTED IN: Summer 2016,

Outgoing President Message
Douglas Char, MD, FACEP

Two years seemed like a long time at the start of my Presidency. Thanks for all the support and hard work by members, students, residents and staff. Most of all thanks to the unwavering  effort and support of the Board of Directors.

We tried a number of things over the past two years. Some of it worked, other initiatives fell flat. We’ve made inroads  updating the website and member communication is more robust. We have a better idea of who constitutes the MOCEP membership, and where they live and work. We’ve raised the profile of MOCEP at the national level with council resolutions, our annual Missouri reception for members and alumni of Missouri residency programs at the Scientific Assembly, and by co-sponsoring events for residents and faculty with EMRA.

As Past President, I’ll be traveling to Destin Florida June 6-9 to represent MOCEP at the Southeast (SEC) ACEP conference. MOCEP is now one of the chapters sponsoring this long standing education meeting. Dr. Chris Sampson and Dr. Tim Koboldt (from Mizzou) are part of this year’s faculty. Dr. Heidt, our incoming President, and Dr. Evan Schwarz (incoming Vice-President) have lots of ideas and energy to carry MOCEP forward. Our new Executive Director Sarah Luebbert is already driving us forward and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the College. I’m confident that the future of MOCEP is bright and thank you for the opportunity to have served the members these past two years.  The time has flown by.

Incoming President Message
Jonathan Heidt, MD, MHA, FACEP

As the incoming president for MOCEP, I need to first recognize the outstanding leadership of Dr. Char. Under Dr. Char’s leadership, MOCEP has continued to grow in both size and scope.  Based upon our membership survey, Dr. Char developed several committees with objectives identified by MOCEP members.  We have also expanded our involvement and engagement with ACEP through the sponsorship of council resolutions and increased involvement on national committees and work groups.  As incoming president, I will work to continue MOCEP on the path started by Dr. Char.

Over the next two years, my goal is to identify how MOCEP can support you in the delivery of high quality emergency care in Missouri.  Through engagement with MOCEP, we can work together to improve access and resources needed to accomplish this goal.  I truly believe that Missouri can be a leader in the nation in the advancement of emergency medicine.  Please contact me at any time to discuss issues or concerns that are important to you!
