Mindfulness in Emergency Medicine

Mindfulness meditation has been shown to be help people manage stress and to help maintain attentional focus. Dr. John Paul Minda and Dr. Ken Milne at the University of Western Ontario, along with Dr. Diane Birnbaumer at Harbor UCLA Medical Center are conducting a research study on the effects of mindfulness meditation and psychological well-being among emergency practitioners. Enrollment in the study will commence in early 2018.

Details of the Study

  • Participants will take part in an 8-week, online mindfulness meditation program and will complete several tests before and after the program.
  • Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: Group 1 will begin the program right away and Group 2 will begin the program when the first group has completed their program.
  • Participants can make a meaningful contribution towards research on mindfulness.
