Christina Creel-Bulos, MD, was selected to receive the 2018 Missouri College of Emergency Physicians’ (MOCEP) R.R. Hannas Resident of the Year Award. She was nominated by her peer, Sonya Naganathan, from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University Emergency Medicine Resident Program. The award will be presented to Dr. Creel-Bulos at the MOCEP Annual General Membership Meeting on April 26, 2018, in Springfield, Mo.
Dr. Creel-Bulos is a graduate of Rush University Medical School, Chicago, Ill., and is currently a PGY-3. Her professional activities and memberships include serving as chair of the Palliative Action Care Group, Clinical Chair of the Critical Care Scholar Tract, and Co-Chair of the Resident and Alumni Wellness Committee, all at Washington University.
Dr. Creel-Bulos was nominated for her capability, compassion and high-level of emotional intelligence for patients and peers within her residency program. She brings forward five years of nursing experience to residency. She has translated this into multiple multidisciplinary initiatives. She has been instrumental in hosting quarterly critical care skills sessions in partnership with nursing staff, bringing critical nursing skills to residents. Additionally, she has been instrumental in promoting the Emergency Department RN Journal Club and furthering multidisciplinary education.
The R.R. Hannas Award is presented to an emergency medicine physician and resident each year, and is named after Dr. Ralston R. Hannas, a “founding father” of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Hannas is a past president of the American College of Emergency Physicians and was the co-organizer, with Dr. Wiegenstein, of the first Scientific Assembly in 1969. He was also chairman of the committee that founded the American Board of Emergency Medicine, served on the Board for twelve years and was the organization’s fourth president. Dr. Hannas was also instrumental in helping organize the fifth Emergency Medicine residency program in the country, at Northwestern University, in 1973. In 1976 he moved to Kansas City where he practiced emergency medicine for 21 years.
