POSTED IN: EM Pulse - The Official Newsletter of MOCEP, May/June 2020,
Welcome MOCEP members. I am honored to serve at the President of this organization for the next two years. First off, I want to thank Evan Schwarz for all his hard work during his term. As you can see from our Top 10 list, MOCEP accomplished many great things from legislative efforts to keeping members up to date on COVID-19 information. These accomplishments were all possible due to Evan’s leadership.
If one word could fit the current situation, it would be unprecedented. We currently sit in a financial, medical and social crisis. Working in the Emergency Department we unfortunately witness all the effects of these crises first hand. To quote a fellow EM physician “Emergency rooms are among the most egalitarian places in medicine and provides me the chance to serve the underserved. It does not matter what color your skin is, who you love, what language you speak, or where you are from-the sickest go first. I will take care of you whether or not you can afford it. I recognize I may be the only access to healthcare you have.”
My goals as President are to serve as your advocate and constantly work to help Emergency Physicians in Missouri. We are constantly attacked by those seeking to cut our reimbursement, take over our scope of practice and impose unnecessary educational requirements. MOCEP is your voice and fights for you. I encourage you to contact me now or at any time with issues that are important to you in Missouri.
Christopher Sampson, MD, FACEP
