NBC News Wants Video Diaries of EM Physicians

POSTED IN: Forum Topic,

NBC News is looking for video diaries from health care workers who are on the front lines in the fight against coronavirus. They are looking for stories particularly in Green, Franklin, and Jefferson counties, but will take diaries from physicians in other parts of Missouri. They think it’s extremely important to shed light on the heroic work medical personnel are doing to keep people safe.

If you are interested, please contact Catherine Corrigan at [email protected] or by calling 201-294-5968.

Here is more information about the video diaries:

  • HOW TO SHOOT: Doesn’t need to be a professional set up; only thing we ask is that you shoot videos with your phone horizontally.
  • LOCATION: Generally works best if the video is shot in a place relevant to your work or home life that is relatively quiet. We’ve had folks do it in the break room, a quiet hallway, or even in their car in the parking lot before they drive home from a shift. Some people have done it in their basements where they’re quarantining from their families.
  • LENGTH: I’ve gotten video diaries anywhere between 60 seconds to 10 minutes; anything in that range is fine.
  • HOW TO SEND: Whatever’s easiest for you. Some people text the videos to my phone (201-294-5968); you can also upload to Google Drive and send me a link, send via Wetransfer or Dropbox, etc. If you don’t know how to do any of that, I can walk you through it!
  • ADDITIONAL VIDEO AND PICTURES: To the extent you can, we’d love any additional video or pictures you can send to go with the video diary. Sometimes this is a picture of you at work in your PPE; a team photo with other nurses and doctors; video of the outside of the hospital; or video from inside the hospital (being very careful to respect patient privacy concerns.) If you talk about your family, always great to have a family photo if possible. No sweat if you can’t provide additional vid or pix.
  • TOPICS: We’re typically fine with whatever you want to talk about as it relates to your experience treating the pandemic. Below are some topics some people have chosen to address if you need some ideas.
    • Trends you’re seeing across multiple patients at your hospital
    • Anecdote about a particular case
    • Volume of patients you’ve been seeing
    • A rundown of what your day was like
    • How your work has affected your family/home life
    • Availability of resources (PPE, ventilators, gowns, etc.)
    • How the hospital staff is supporting each other during this time
    • What should people at home know about this disease?
    • What would you say to other medical professionals treating this disease?
