2021 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule

POSTED IN: Forum Topic,

Congress can act before year end to mitigate the drastic Medicare cuts coming in January 2021. They need to hear just how much you are counting on their help and why.  Click here to take immediate action.

Tuesday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the final rule for the 2021 Medicare physician fee schedule (PFS), which sets Medicare payment rates beginning January 1, 2021. Unfortunately, despite ACEP’s successful advocacy for a 2% increase for the ED E/M codes, because of the existing budget neutrality requirement under the Medicare PFS, the increase that ACEP advocacy secured for you was cancelled – and then some.

Despite strong advocacy efforts by ACEP and many other medical specialties impacted, the final rule made no meaningful changes that would address the cuts caused by budget neutrality. Emergency physicians will face a 6% cut unless Congress acts before year end.

Now, it is even more imperative that Congress hears directly from you, an emergency physician in their district/state, that halting the cuts is essential to preserve access for patients and maintain the fragile health care safety net in the midst of the surging pandemic.
