President’s Letter – November/December 2020

Print Article

POSTED IN: EM Pulse - The Official Newsletter of MOCEP, November/December 2020,

A word that I have seen used frequently over the past few weeks is hope.  The darkest days of this pandemic are still in front of us, but we have seen the first phase of vaccination begin among emergency physicians like ourselves.  These initial vaccination offers up the hope of an eventual toppling of this virus and a return to the lives we had prior to March of this year. Many physicians, nurses and other health care providers have lost their lives providing care to those infected with Covid-19.  For some, the conditions have not been ideal and we have, for the first time, seen a pandemic become a political issue.

With the new year will come the state legislative season.  MOCEP has begun to look at the issues that likely will arise and we promise to be your advocate for emergency physicians in Missouri.

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, May 27.  The Missouri Emergency Medicine Symposium will return and we are planning a packed, engaging event with great speakers.  Our hope is to hold the meeting in person in Columbia with a virtual option for those unable to make the trip.

Lastly, I wish everyone a happy holiday and new year.  Many of you will be working the ED over the holidays showing the true ethos of EM: “Anyone, Anything, Anytime”.  Stay safe and please don’t hesitate to contact me if MOCEP can assist in any way.

Sincerely,

Christopher Sampson, MD, FACEP
President, MOCEP
