In the world of emergency medicine, we always have a new challenge to face. The pandemic appeared to be waning in the spring, but across Missouri we are seeing our numbers continue to rise especially in our rural areas. Nationwide, we are seeing record heat and the emergencies associated with such severe temperatures. If that wasn’t enough, last week here in Mid-Missouri we saw historic amounts of rain fall and flooding throughout the region. Yet through all of this, we continue to take care of our patients 24/7/365.
It was such a great experience to be able to meet in person again. Last month, MOCEP held the Missouri Emergency Medicine Symposium. which also included the general membership meeting. Two weeks later we hosted our 2nd annual Missouri Medical Student event. Both events were hybrid, allowing those who could not attend in person the opportunity to experience our educational offerings virtually. I was also recently able to represent Missouri ACEP at the EMerald Coast Conference hosted by Alabama ACEP. The opportunity to interact in-person with other EM physicians again cannot be overstated.
Summer does not mean a break in our legislative efforts. A special session of the legislature is currently addressing health care reimbursement issues with important EM implications. MOCEP continues to advocate for all EM physicians in Missouri.
Looking to the fall, we hope to see many of you at ACEP in Boston. We will be holding the Missouri reception on the evening of Tuesday, October 26. More information to come.
I wish everyone an enjoyable summer and safe travels for those travelling. The Board is planning a strategic planning retreat near the end of summer and we promise to update our membership following this meeting with our future plans and goals.
