President’s Letter – November/December 2021

POSTED IN: EM Pulse - The Official Newsletter of MOCEP, November/December 2021,

Just when we thought it was all over, another wave of pandemic begins.  Thankfully, initial reports appear to be positive when it comes to mortality related to the variant.  Unfortunately, it appears to be more contagious and anyone working in a Missouri Emergency Department knows the last thing we need right now is more patients in our often overcrowded departments. As with the other waves it may not be pretty, but we will get through this trial.

Our education committee is working hard on our spring EM Symposium. We promise both an opportunity for great education along with some time for fun. We have confirmed the location at Margaritaville in Lake of the Ozarks and the event will take place on Friday, April 22, 2022.

Additionally, MOCEP has two new committees that formed and are looking for additional members.  The rural committee led by Dr. Louis Jamtgaard and the pediatric EM committee led by Dr. Mary Beth Bernardin. Both have great ideas and will provide valuable benefit to MOCEP members.

Mark your calendars, March 1, 2022, is Advocacy Day. The pandemic has not slowed down the legislative issues important to EM and has shown us other important issues that affect our specialty.  Plans are still in place for an in-person event in Jefferson City so, if possible, please try to attend. Your voice counts to your representatives.

I hope everyone is able to find some time away from the ED to spend with family and friends. Happy Holidays and I will speak to everyone in the New Year.
