POSTED IN: EM Pulse - The Official Newsletter of MOCEP, September/October 2022,

MOCEP members,

We lost an ER legend last month with the untimely passing of Brian Robb, DO, MBA, FACEP.  Nearly every practicing emergency physician in northwest Missouri has in some way been touched by Dr. Robb’s sphere of influence.  Dr. Robb’s career in emergency medicine spanned nearly 38 years, and in that time was President and Medical Director of Liberty Emergency Physicians, Inc. for 28 years, and acted as Chief of Staff for years during his tenure. He then served as an emergency physician for Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for 8 years, and for the last few years he fell in love with rural emergency medicine and practiced exclusively in Albany, MO.

Dr. Robb was also a long-time member of MOCEP beginning in 1988 and was involved on the MOCEP Board of Directors including serving as Vice President in 2008-2010, and as President from 2010-2012. He continued on the Board until 2017.

For many, Dr. Robb was their first introduction to emergency medicine. Dr. Jeremy Hunter, DO, now medical director at Mosaic Life Care ED, remembers “I started shadowing him when I was 12. I thought he was superhuman.  Watching how he treated patients, nurses, all staff with the respect that he did, shaped how I approach people from a very young age.   He was my friend, my mentor, my champion. I wouldn’t be who or what I am without having been blessed to know him.”

Dr. Lindy Andrews remembers Dr. Robb all the way from back in 1983 at University Hospital, and to this day carries his sage and gracious advice, “Make tomorrow better.”

Dr. Robb was a leader, a mentor, and advocated to make emergency medicine better for his patients and fellow physicians. He will be remembered for his contributions to emergency medicine in Missouri, and by his colleagues (including myself) for his warm demeanor, his lightheartedness, and positive outlook even in the most stressful situations.

In Honor of Dr. Robb’s legacy, MOCEP submitted a resolution to the 2022 ACEP Council, recognizing his contributions to the field of emergency medicine. PHOTO

We offer our heartfelt condolence to his wife of 43 years, Sharon, his three children, and many grandchildren.

Sincerely,

Louis Jamtgaard, MD, FACEP
