The Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), launched by the St. Louis County Department of Public Health in 2017, is currently utilized by 75 jurisdictions across Missouri. This program allows healthcare providers to review a patient’s controlled substance prescription history before issuing new prescriptions, thereby improving clinical care and decision making.
In May 2021, the Missouri Legislature passed a bill authorizing a statewide expansion of the PDMP. This expanded program, set to launch on December 13, 2023, will cover the entire state of Missouri. The transition process will be coordinated with the Joint Oversight Task Force (JOTF).
However, it’s important to note that this transition will result in the disabling of current integrations with electronic health records or pharmacy management systems. These integrations are currently approved under local ordinances, and any future approvals will need to be reviewed by the JOTF under state statute.
For more information about these changes and updates, check the Saint Louis County MO website’s PDMP page.
