MOCEP Members,
Another year has passed and it has certainly been an interesting one. I hope this holiday season has afforded you the opportunity to spend time and connect with friends and family. As your President, I would like to express my gratitude for the things that are going well in our organization.
Thank you to all of you who attended our Missouri reception at ACEP in Last Vegas in September. It was such a great turnout that we exceeded the maximum occupancy of the room and had to spill out into the hallway! It was nice to reconnect with colleagues from across our state and to meet and share stories with many of you. I am also thankful for the hard work our committees have been putting into focusing on advocacy, member engagement, and education across our state. And of course, I am thankful for our MOCEP Executive Director Sarah Luebbert, who has helped keep us organized and focused on our priorities for 2024 and the upcoming year (as well as sending me countless reminders to write this letter.)
While we can’t predict exactly what 2025 will hold, we anticipate legislative challenges ahead, particularly concerning scope of practice and insurance payments.
We ask that you mark your calendars for several key dates in the coming year:
February 19, 2025 – Advocacy Day in Jefferson City, MO
May 2, 2025 – Missouri Emergency Medicine Symposium in Chesterfield, MO
We would love to see strong participation from our members at both events and look forward to the opportunity to meet in person and discuss the successes and challenges that you are facing in your own Emergency Departments.
This newsletter you are currently reading has been called “EPIC” for some time now. As I mentioned at the Missouri reception at ACEP, I feel that this name fails to adequately convey the scope and goal of the newsletter and often gets confused for the EMR by the same name. For these reasons, we are hosting a contest to rename the newsletter. We invite you to submit your ideas for a new name here.
Please remember that MOCEP is always seeking members who want to get involved in committees or take on leadership roles. Participating in committees is a great way to network with other members and is not overly time consuming! You can sign up to join a committee here.
The MOCEP leadership and I are grateful for your continued membership, and we encourage you to reach out with any concerns, questions, or ideas you may have. We would love to hear from you!
Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday,
Timothy Koboldt, MD, FACEP
President, MOCEP
