President’s Message

POSTED IN: EM Pulse Q1 2025,

Dear MOCEP Members,

I am excited to share that our newsletter has been renamed from EPIC to EM Pulse. This new name reflects the dynamic and vital pulse of emergency medicine that we all embody. As we progress through 2025, we are facing new challenges, including a significant spike in Influenza A cases and an increase in norovirus cases in our emergency departments. As always, our commitment to providing the best care remains unwavering, and I am grateful for the dedication and resilience of our members. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to those who participated in MOCEP Advocacy Day in Jefferson City. Despite the event being postponed due to a snowstorm, your presence and engagement were invaluable. At Advocacy Day, we focused on three critical topics:

  • Advocating for EMS Peer Review – Ensuring that our EMS systems have robust peer review processes is crucial for continuous improvement and high-quality patient care.
  • Violence Prevention in Emergency Departments – Addressing violence against healthcare workers is a top priority, and we are committed to creating safer work environments for all.
  • 24/7 On-Site Physician Requirement – Discussing the proposal to require a physician to be on-site at every emergency department in Missouri around the clock is a significant step toward ensuring high standards of patient care.

I would also like to invite you to register for our MOCEP Annual Symposium, which will be held on May 2 in Chesterfield, Missouri, at the AC Hotel. We will kick off the event with a reception the evening before. The education committee has curated a great lineup of expert speakers. Once again, we will feature a Critical Procedure Playground hands-on skill session paired with our EMerging Speakers series. Additionally, we will hold our general membership meeting and elections for the MOCEP Board of Directors and ACEP Councillors. This will be a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and advance our shared goals in emergency medicine, and I hope to see you all there!

If you have any concerns, comments, or questions, please feel free to email me directly. Thank you for your continued dedication and for being an essential part of our collective efforts. Together, we can navigate these challenges and continue to advance the field of emergency medicine in Missouri.
