President’s Message

POSTED IN: 2026 EM Pulse Q1, EM Pulse - The Official Newsletter of MOCEP, forum, Forum Topic,

As I write this final President’s letter for EM Pulse, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on all that MOCEP has accomplished together this past year. It has been a true honor to serve as your President and to advocate alongside so many dedicated emergency physicians across Missouri.

One of the highlights of this quarter was our Advocacy Day on March 4 in Jefferson City. MOCEP members came together to make the voice of emergency medicine heard on several critical issues affecting our patients, our specialty, and our colleagues. We advocated for stronger protections for healthcare workers facing violence in the emergency department, for ensuring that every emergency department has a physician present, and for preserving peer review protections for EMS. These are important priorities for our profession and for the patients and communities we serve, and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to participate and represent emergency medicine so well.

On the education front, I continue to be incredibly proud of the momentum MOCEP has built. Our Emergency Medicine Symposium last year in Chesterfield was record-breaking in attendance and content.  This is a testament to the continued efforts by our Membership Committee to engage with MOCEP members across the state and the outstanding work of our Education Committee. That energy continues as we look ahead to our upcoming Symposium at the Lake of the Ozarks on May 29. I am especially excited that this meeting will also feature the first gathering of our relaunched MOCEP Medical Student Board, an important step in engaging and mentoring the next generation of emergency physicians in Missouri.

As this is my final letter as MOCEP President, I want to simply say thank you (especially if you have read this far into my letter!)  It has been a privilege to serve this organization and its members. I have great confidence in MOCEP’s future, and I know the College will be in excellent hands when my friend and colleague, Dr. Kene Chukwuanu of Saint Louis University, is sworn in as our next President at the General Membership Meeting on May 29.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It has truly been a pleasure.
